All options in our timber selection are guaranteed to withstand the kitchen’s daily grind, resisting high levels of moisture, spills, and stains once a suitable protective coating is applied. They are long lasting, cost-effective and they are a beautiful addition to your kitchen space. Moreover, the materials for our laminated benchtops are sustainably sourced from reputable suppliers.
Here are some of your options for laminated timber benchtops:
- Tasmanian Oak / Victorian Ash
Tasmanian Oak and Victorian Ash are trade names for the most common species of hardwood grown locally and sustainability in southern Australia. Species include Alpine Ash and Mountain Ash in along with Stringybark and Australian Oak. They are all eucalypt hardwoods and are light in colour varying from straw to reddish brown with shades of pink. They are excellent for staining allowing you to match other timbers and decor.
Merbau
It does not come as a surprise that Merbau is a popular choice for laminated benchtops in Melbourne. This hardwood is more fire-resistant than other types of wood. It does not catch fire easily, making it a preferred material in the kitchen. It also has a lower expansion rate than other species, making it suitable for high-moisture areas in the home.
Merbau, although durable, is workable and easily cut to fit your kitchen layout. Whatever look you want for your kitchen space, Merbau can deliver, as it ranges from reddish-brown to brown. It retains its colour for a long time.
Red Gum
The luxurious shade of red is what makes Red Gum a prized kitchen benchtop in Melbourne. The colour ranges from light to dark red — an elegant and unique design element in any living space. It makes the space warmer and more inviting. Like Merbau, it is also more fire-resistant than other timber types, making it ideal for the kitchen space.
